Most Recent: Sydney Dec 28-Jan 2.

Judy, Larry and I arrive the morning of Dec 28 and checked into the Harbour Marriott.  The first day was cloudy and we just took it easy and did a walk about Circular Quay.  We went to Fish at the Rocks for a very nice seafood dinner.  Subsequent days were all sunshine and temps in the mid to upper 20s (75-85F). The second day Judy and I headed to Manly Beach and that evening we went to Michael Tesoriero’s for dinner.  I met Michael when I was over here in November 2008.  He, Larry and Judy are fans of the opera so I listened to their stories.  After our cruise, on Jan 17, Judy, Larry, Guy, Linda and I will be going to see Madame Butterfly at the Sydney Opera House.  My first opera in 42 years; the last was when I was 12 in Germany and I was way to young to appreciate it. See Sydney First Few Days page  for more.

We are awaiting the arrival of Judy this morning (Dec 30).

Previously: Bangkok Dec 22-26.

I spent Christmas Eve sightseeing in Bangkok which meant visiting Wat (Buddhist Temples). I took the boat up the river to Wat Pho and started with the Temple of the Reclining Buddha and then hired a tuk tuk and headed to Wat Benchamabophit   (Marble temple) and then a small Temple with a standing Buddha.

Christmas Eve Dinner buffet was incredible, ice sculptures of snow men, Santa and Christmas trees, with dozens of ice tables adorned with food and desserts.  Two grill areas where they prepared shrimp, lobster and fish at one and steak, lamb, chicken and beef kabobs, and brats at another.  There was also a carving area with turkey and roast beef, a whole roast pig, and separate Chinese, Japanese, Italian, and Thai sections. Food was great.

Previously: Hong Kong Dec 17-22.

Saturday was Kowloon exploring Nathan Road and Avenue of Stars. Nobu for dinner. Sunday we visited Victoria Peak, Aberdeen fishing village, drove past Repulse Bay, and ended our tour at Stanley Market.  Dinner was Peking duck at Peking Garden. Monday explored Hong Kong Park, Botanical Gardens and Zoological park, and Soho.  Dinner at Aqua where we watched the symphony of lights. See Hong Kong page for more.
